Multi-family Commercial Design
J. Banks Design
During my tenure at J. Banks Design, I assisted with the design, documentation, selection, and installation of large-scale multifamily commercial projects across the southern United States. These projects included The Heron at River Island Apartments in Augusta, Georgia, Soundwater Apartments in Nashville, Tennessee, and The Premier Apartments in Evans, Georgia. Lisa Whitley was the lead designer on each, but I contributed by translating her overarching design vision into actionable construction drawings and selection packages. I also played a contributing role in finalizing and managing orders and overseeing installation upon completion. Here you can see examples of the designs I drafted for my team and the final results

Residential Design
J. Banks Design
I also had the opportunity to assist with several residential; projects across the East Coast. Unlike the more measured and methodical commercial design, these were often fast-paced and segmented with details being designed, drafted, and constructed rapidly. Although I was not the project lead on the residential side of things, I taught myself the complexities of AutoCAD and quickly became my team’s go-to draftswoman.
In one residential project, shown here, I was tasked with drafting designs for a bunk room that met our client’s exacting standards while also providing comfortable and exciting sleeping arrangements for a number of grandchildren in a small space.

The Growing Center
A Horticultural Therapy Community Center
Senior Thesis Project
The Growing Center is designed to be a combination of a horticultural therapy center, a community center, and a mental health facility. So much of our mental health as humans is influenced by our environment and our connection with nature and yet we, as a society, have isolated ourselves from the natural world. For some, nature is only a short walk or drive away, but what happens if you live in the heart of a major urban area without even a tree on your corner or an empty lot full of grass? This project was designed to bring nature home to urban dwellers and to create a public park indoors where anyone could access it, relax, or even grow their own food. It was also designed to capitalize on the health benefits of nature by including a mental health clinic and community spaces.
The overall project is the culmination of two quarters worth of research, design, and rendering work. The final project book contains all documentation, research, and process work from this project, It is over 180 pages long and will open in another window. Please be aware that it has been compressed to simplify the process so some images and graphics may appear blurry.
